We purchased a VIP package - a requirement for the preferred seats we wanted for Les Mis - my favorite show in London. Was the (basic) VIP package (not to be confused with meet and greet package) at Sondheim Theatre in London worth it? Depends. If you absolutely must have the best seats in the the house (fifth row, center), yes. If you're willing to sit a few seats off center or in a different row, probably not.
The package consists of the best seats in house, champagne, crisps, and programmes, and a separate reserved seating in lobby/bar area before the show.
We were disappointed in the package (not the show). It was fantastic to arrive early, have a reserved seat in the limited seating bar area, and enjoy presgow champagne. At the interim (intermission) we expected the same reserved seats as those we had before the show. No. Not the case. Our half empty (or full) champagne bottle, crisps, and champagne glasses were set on the side of the bar where we could retrieve them. We then stood about bottle in hand, crisps tucked in crook of arm, champagne glasses dangling precariously from our fingertips waiting/hoping for a place to sit. As luck (or kindness) would have it, two young people gave us their seats. There were probably less than 10 seats total in the bar area.
Would we do this again? No. We would opt to sit a few seats off center or in a different row.
Les Miserables? Always, always stupendous.
Stayed tune. We bought the VIP package for Oliver!. Different theatre but same management. I am seduced by great seats.
